What does it feel like to breathe?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 06, 2009:
I saw the question this morning and did not have time to deal with it, so coming inside a little while ago, I decided to have another look. Breathing feels like the hair growing on my head, or like my eyes blinking. It's an automatic response to keep the vehicle running until it's no longer useful. I must say I don't spend alot of time thinking about it, I'm usually caught up in something else, but when I've really done enough physical labor to make me breathe hard, I'm glad , it shows I've given myself a work out and accomplished something useful in the mean time.

Sometimes it's the things we never give a second thought to that we are most grateful for at a sub-conscious level:
Sturdy legs under a chair
Cables that move an elevator
Pilings under the pier
We rarely give them a second thought. I think that's a pretty terrific compliment to Spirit. We just have a confident knowing that it's covered; working like a well-oiled machine.
Absolutely, if I had to stop and make a decision to digest my food or grow my hair, I would look like one of those funny Chinese hairless dogs that are always winning ugly dog contests, bald and too thin to cast a shadow. That we can take some of the most fundamental things for granted leaves plenty of time to focus on the rest. Of course, I was more aware of my breathing today having taken that in with my morning coffee. Until I got busy again and forgot. Like Dad said, “Thank GOD, breathing's automatic!”.
