What are you comfortable with?

The hat on my head,  the clothes on my back, the shoes on my feet.  The bed where I sleep, the house that I keep,  and the garden I work.  The road that I take, the places I go, the friends that I make.  The green of the trees,  the soil of the Earth,  the size of the sky. The coolness of peace, inside my own skin, universes within.

“… inside my own skin …”

Great post, Sandi.  Everything you named is important, but this one especially especially so.  I think that when we're not comfortable in our own skin, the rest is somehow diminished.

Good morning, Laurie!  Maybe it's just me, but it seems that if we are constantly itching and twitching, our attention is diverted from other influences that shape our lives.  Too much concentration on self makes for a very small world.  When we can get over ourselves and get on out there, we've given ourselves unlimited opportunities to create our own atmospheric and barometric conditions,  the Universe is the limit, Unlimited.

“When we can get over ourselves …”

That is an incredibly healthy prescription Dr. Sandi - a healthy one, indeed.

And I can guarantee you that if we followed it to a 'T' - we'd all feel better in the morning!

There is only one thread of all cotton.
The warp, the woof, the quill of the weaver's shuttle,
The shuttle, the texture of cloths, the cotton shoes and hanks of yarn,
All are known by their respective names,
And they all belong to their respective places
But there is only one thread of yarn.

Laurie, if I could follow my own advice all the time,  I'm sure I would feel a great deal better myself!  It's those emotional hangovers the next morning that put me off center, half a bubble off, you might say.  Thanks.
Bhatta, what a masterful summary of all things!  From which, I'm sure, hangs a tale….  Thanks for your visit and the verse.

Carlton, you're a double barreled bundle of joy yourself!  Never ceasing to bring a dash of cheer when you come to chat,  thank you.
Good Day to you Jeannie!  Thanks, uhm…. it didn't start as a poem, actually it wasn't till you said so.  I'll just let it be one though.
Yo,  Gabe!   Glad to see your smiling face today!   Thank you and have a very good day for yourself.

Sandi, it reads like a poem, that's for sure. And not only that, it reads like a poem that I want to cut out, make copies of, and hang up, paste, or tape to fridge, cupboard, closet, mirror, as a constant reminder that if I'm not feeling comfortable with the hat, the clothes, the road, etc., the problem is not with them, it's with me. And the solution is as simple as going within, getting comfortable in my own skin.

Thank you for this!

Ruth

Thank you, Ruth.  How pleasant it is to come in from outside and find something as nice as this to think about while I finish cutting grass.  Everyone's nice comments on my not-a-poem poem has put a big smiley face under my hat today.  Thanks

Okay,  Miss Smiley Face,  I see you have your big straw hat on too!  We've had a cool week last week with some showers so I waited for it to get all the water it could before I cut.  If I think of it I'll try to get off a shot or two myself.  Thanks for the giggle, it cuts the dust out of my throat.

Dontcha just love that hat?!  Len got it for me this summer for working in the yard.  So here's the deal … Len does all of the cooking and shopping, but I do all of the yard work - including snow removal in the winter.  It's sort of role-reversal for what people think of as 'normal' gender tasks, but I happen to LOVE being outside, and Len happens to LOVE to cook and save as much money as he can shopping with coupons.  It works out beautifully for us.

Shhuutt   UUuuPPP! !   No Way!  I'm green, grass stains, not envy!   The only time Jim cooked was on the Grill ( good! )  or frying fish he had caught (9X-bad!).  As for anything else in the house, his idea of cleaning was not my idea so there weren't any problems, I did it all.  The light was blotchy in the garden but I did get a pic. of my pet banana tree, her name is Big.  It's at the top of the page.

Sandi - Good grief!  I'm surprised her name isn't ”Gigantic” instead of “Big!”  You have a beautiful yard.

I clean the kitchen after Len cooks.  Len is responsible for cleaning the bathroom.  I vacuum, he dusts and does mirrors.  We each do our own laundry so no one (me) has a “hissy fit!”  He does car maintenance and I pay bills.  Poop patrol (dogs/cats) is determined by day - he has even numbered days, I have odd. It's a nice give-and-take.

Our dinner this evening was a formidable salad.  Every ingredient came from our local Farmer's Market (including hard boiled eggs) and fresh corn on the cob.  Our dessert will be watermelon.  I tried to find a good link to our Farmer's Market to share with you, but none of them do it justice.  It's fantastic! and only about two blocks from our healing studio … which is only about 2-miles from our home (in a blizzard we can make it in 15 minutes).

Well, Big is only 3yrs old, maybe when she grows up, she'll decide on something else.  The yard is not so much beautiful as it is alive.  That's the best we can hope for in August.  Sounds like you've got made in the shade, Lady, I wouldn't know what to do with that kind of help.  Probably break down and cry with relief.  When Dad was still here and I had both yards to do, working and keeping up with a garden on my own,  he mentioned that I needed a wife.  I told him I wasn't wired that way and I was doing all I could to keep up with my own self, much less some one else wanting attention.  As soon as you raise your children up to be useful they leave.  Bite my tongue!  Knock on wood!  Let them stay where they are,  I'm enjoying the peace.

Only three years old.  Lordy, you are going to have a full figured woman – a lady of girth – on your hands when she matures!

I can't imagine doing both yards, a garden and caregiving all by myself.  You are a woman of mettle, and my hat is off to you.

Yes - lets leave our grown children right where they are.  The ripple effect boomerange style is more than enough!

I'm off to enjoy my watermelon.  We'll probably have a seed spitting contest in the back yard when we're done and trust me, you can put your money on ME!
